Robby van der Plancken. had a wife, a child, a rented house, and he worked for an employment agency. He was twenty. He no longer appeared in porn films, he no longer snorted and injected, he did not drink, he never came to Amsterdam again. Robby van der P. was no longer a whore and no longer gay. He lived again in Belgium, near the village where he was born, and he packed speculaas on the assembly line. His girlfriend Cindy Mehauden was a cleaner at the retirement home, on Sunday they went to an amusement park with their daughter Nina or to visit family.

A month after he left the Netherlands, Erik had stopped by, an ex-boyfriend. Erik had Robby's name tattooed on his buttocks, he wanted Robby to come back to Amsterdam. Robby didn't even let him in. Makes you go away.
But the work in the cake factory was temporary and also in the stonemasonry, after that he could not stay. His daughter Nina, two years old, was often ill, she had problems with her lungs. Robby could barely pay the bills for the hospital and medicines. Cindy earned seventeen hundred guilders a month cleaning, the house cost almost seven hundred. Robby sometimes went back to the Netherlands, and one day, in the summer of 1997, Ruud called from the escort agency in Amsterdam.

Gerrie Ulrich - a sick, thin man of forty-eight years from Zandvoort - had asked about Robby. Thousand guilders for one night. "I dragged him out of the car," Cindy says now. "I didn't want him to go, and he stayed at home."

The following weekend Robby was gone anyway. The following weekend he went again to Zandvoort. Gerrie Ulrich's friend, the chartered accountant Leo van Gasselt, had just died of liver cancer and Ulrich found it difficult to be alone. Robby kept him company, Robby told Cindy. Nothing else.

And Ulrich paid Robby well. He also gave him a new car, new clothes, and a motorcycle. He offered Robby a job at his computer store Cube Hardware and bought him a flat near his own floor on the beach. Robby, who had never sat in front of a computer before, moved to Zandvoort with his wife and child.

Now, almost a year later, Gerrie Ulrich is dead. By a bullet from Robby's revolver. Robby has been in a prison in northern Italy for a month and a half. An accident, Robby told the police. They were on vacation together and shot at cans, a bullet bounced off a rock and hit Ulrich in the back. No, it was euthanasia, Robby suddenly said. Ulrich was very ill, he wanted Robby to end his suffering. Robby later said something else to the Italian investigating judge: Ulrich had "pressured" him, blackmailed him.

A few days after Ulrich's death, an enormous amount of extremely hard child pornography was discovered in his flat in Zandvoort. Ulrich sold photos and films to pedophiles via the Internet. Robby van der P. would have helped him, his agenda would contain names of important customers. Italy will not yet extradite Robby van der P. to the Netherlands. This week the 'accident' was reconstructed on the spot by the Italian investigating judge, Robby was there. An accident is out of the question, justice says: Robby is now accused of murder, he must remain in Italy for the time being.

Robby van der P. comes from Willebroek, a village just above Mechelen. His father, he says himself, traded in weapons. Robby's parents separated when he was one year old. He had two older brothers. The eldest was deaf from birth and was 'ceded' by his parents because they could not care for him. Robby's mother remarried, to a former high school sweetheart, and she had two sons, twins. Her new husband drank even more than the first and hit harder. She also sometimes hit back, or she ran out of the house with her children because he - completely drunk - rammed into the front door with an ax.
Robby was a difficult, aggressive boy. He broke things in the house and bullied his brothers. He locked them in a cupboard or let them touch a cut electrical wire with wet hands. At school he emptied the van with milk money, he stole from shops and from his stepfather's wallet. He returned from a barbecue at the Boy Scouts one Saturday afternoon with a box of chicken breasts. Got it, he said. Stolen, it turned out later.
When he was nine, his mother registered him at the Ter Elst boarding school in Duffel, for behaviorally disturbed children. After a few months she took him home again. A short time later Robby was placed there again, by the juvenile judge. He was transferred from Duffel to a boarding school in Brasschaat, ran away, was arrested and transferred again, to the closed juvenile detention center in Mol. In the mid-eighties, after another escape, Robby hid for weeks with his real father, Luk de Koninck, who at that time had a brothel in Zeeland, in Goes. The police discovered Robby and brought him back to Belgium.
De Koninck, a small, sturdy man with curly gray hair, is sitting in the living room of his girlfriend Toos' flat in Geleen. He says: ,,I told Robby to stay inside during the day, for the police. But he always did exactly what he felt like." According to De Koninck - "I know that world" - his son was recruited at the boarding school in Mol at the age of twelve to work in boy prostitution in Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Utrecht.
De Koninck: ,,Those boys leave the institution and they are given addresses. The circus started for our Robby in Mol.” Robby also had little choice, according to his father: “He had nothing, he was on the street. Men sometimes pay a few thousand guilders at a time for such a boy.” De Koninck has never tried to keep Robby from doing this work. “I didn't interfere with it. What Robby wanted to do was his business."
Robby's mother had no idea what her son was doing in the Netherlands. He called every now and then and told her not to worry. He earned enough, he worked for a friend named Lothar.
That was Lothar Glandorf., a German who had a boys' brothel in Rotterdam. Three years ago, he was sentenced to six years in prison for sexual abuse of minors and human trafficking. G. got boys from Germany and Eastern Europe, and promised them that they could become film actors in the Netherlands.
In the official report of that case, G. is described by the boy prostitutes as a fat, smelly man. Each new boy was first 'tried out' by G. himself. He gave them drugs and booze, he made pictures and movies of them. If the boys wanted to quit this job, or once didn't feel like going to a customer who had ordered them at home, he threatened to send video tapes or photos to their parents or their school.
One of Lothar's regular customers, Martin S. from Arnhem, was convicted in the same case. He sometimes kept the boys in his house for days, in a special SM room. He made them drink urine, tied them up with chains, and electrified their genitals. S. had previously been convicted of shooting an underage boy.
Robby van der P. worked in gay bars, brothels, and played in porn films from the late eighties. In Amsterdam he met Gerrie Ulrich, Ulrich was a client of an escort service agency.

According to his father, Robby worked with Lothar G. when he was seventeen. They often went to Germany as a couple, on 'business'. Robby's younger half-brothers were at that time, just like he used to be, in the closed correctional institution in Mol. They had already escaped and went into hiding with Luk de Koninck, who still had his brothel in Goes, and they too had been sent back to the boarding school.
In February 1992, the twins were fourteen, Robby picked them up in Belgium, with Lothar G., and took them to a house in Waalre to watch porn movies. The police got a tip and raided: the two boys were naked and half dazed. They watched, with a few men and Robby, a video with Robby in the lead role, on the beach in Portugal.
Robby managed to convince the police that he had wanted to protect his brothers from the fate that had befallen him in the child porn circuit, but that he had not been able to stop Lothar G.. The boys were taken back to Belgium, but shortly afterwards they also worked in Rotterdam, for Lothar. They lived in the house of an older man in The Hague, who had also previously given Robby shelter.
Lothar G. sometimes drove to Belgium with one of them to pick up friends who also wanted to escape from the boarding school in Mol. Robby tried to get his brothers to act in porn movies with men. After more than a year they had had enough. Luk de Koninck, Robby's father: ,,Once my ex called me, the mother of the twins. Her boys wanted to leave Rotterdam. I went to get them and brought them home."
Robby's mother now knew how her other son earned his money, but he couldn't be taken home anymore. Robby came by one more time, to tell him he was gay. He introduced her to his friend, the English singer Gerry Laffy, a blond man in his forties, and he gave her a photo that Gerry and he had taken from a photographer.
Less than two years later, in 1994, he came to visit again, but now everything was different: Robby stopped working in the Netherlands, he stopped using drugs, he moved in with a girl, Cindy. In Geraardsbergen, a town west of Brussels. Everything that had happened before he called 'my past', he didn't want to say or hear anything more about it.

Robby knew Cindy from back in the day. From a holiday camp for boarding school youngsters, in a castle in northern France, organized by the Belgian health insurance fund De Neutrale. Cindy came from Geraardsbergen. At the age of five, she was placed in a boarding school by order of child protection. Her father drank and died at the age of thirty-two after an inflammation of his pancreas, her mother was unable to raise the three children.
Like Robby, Cindy often ran away and was then transferred to another institution: she eventually went to thirteen different boarding schools, including the closed correctional institution for girls in Beernem. Robby came to see her a few times a year, when she was with her mother on weekends, he wrote her letters. In the summer of 1994—she was eighteen one month after he was nearly twenty—he came by again, and stayed. A year later they had, it was not the intention, a child: Nina.
Cindy Mehauden (21) is sitting on a terrace in Mechelen, on the Grote Markt. After Ulrich's death and Robby's arrest, she immediately moved from Zandvoort back to Belgium. A thin, pale girl with medium-length straight hair. Around her neck hangs a gold plaque with 'Robby' on it. On her left arm is tattooed 'Andy', a former boyfriend. They had little money, but the three years in Geraardsbergen were "pleasant," says Cindy. They sometimes argued, Robby hit her and once in a while she hit back, with a pan. But it wasn't nearly as bad as later: in Zandvoort they argued every other day.
In August 1997 they came to Zandvoort, against Cindy's wishes. She mistrusted Gerrie Ulrich, who so desperately needed a 'companion' from Robby, and on whom they now became financially dependent. During the first weeks in the Netherlands she met Erik again, the boy with Robby's name on his buttock. He showed her a videotape with Robby's photo on the cover: a porn movie of Robby, a lot younger, with men. Robby was furious, that was a thing of the past. He had needed money at the time. Cindy understood, she didn't say anything more about it.
Gerrie Ulrich gave Robby thousands of guilders a month, and also cars, a speedboat, cameras - everything Robby wanted. He also offered him his sailing ship Apollo, but Robby didn't want that, he didn't like sailing. Ulrich had a lot of money: he had inherited the capital from his deceased friend, the chartered accountant Leo van Gasselt, with whom he had been together for almost thirty years. And he earned, but that only became apparent later, from the trade in child pornography on the Internet. In exchange for money and gifts Robby worked in Ulrich's computer shop, and two nights a week, Tuesday and Thursday, he slept in Ulrich's flat. Cindy wanted to believe that Robby "had nothing" with Ulrich, but she looked for proof. She says: "Sometimes I drew a line on his penis with a felt-tip pen. It was still there the next day. If you do it with someone, such a line must be gone, right?"

In Zandvoort Robby got back in touch with the Englishman Gerry Laffy. Laffy wrote him letters, called. A friend from the past, he told Cindy. This spring Robby visited him in England. Gerrie Ulrich was angry about it, Cindy got worried. She read Laffy's letters. love letters. She called Robby's mother. Yes, Gerry Laffy knew him, Robby had had an affair with him. Robby heard about it and was furious again. She read his letters, she didn't trust him, she poked fun at his past. She could go. But she stayed.
Robby's father, Luk de Koninck, became friends with Gerrie Ulrich. He and his girlfriend Toos came to stay in Zandvoort almost every weekend. He says: ,,Gerrie was madly in love with Robby. And he got a little arrogant from what he got. He said everything belonged to him, including that computer shop." Gerrie said that he was seriously ill, but Robby, Cindy and De Koninck didn't know exactly what he had: he had it on his heart, or he had cancer, or AIDS. He was thin and he often shivered, but few people took his complaints seriously. De Koninck: ,,Then he said he would die in a month, then again in two years. He made a big drama out of it." Cindy: "He only trembled when he saw someone looking at him."
According to De Koninck, Ulrich had promised that Robby would inherit his property. He also tried to adopt Robby to make sure he got everything. That didn't work because Robby was of age.
Cindy was at home and was not allowed to do anything, she says. Gerrie and Robby went shopping every Saturday afternoon, also for her and the child. Gerrie and Robby had decided that Nina had to go to daycare, Gerrie paid, and Robby took her to Ducky Duck daycare every morning. Cindy found work in a fishmonger's shop, but Robby came to take her away: she didn't have to leave the house for those few cents. In December last year Gerrie and Robby went to America for ten days. Cindy didn't know anything, so she called the computer store and heard from Robby's colleague that he was gone and that she could pick up sixty guilders every day at the store. Cindy: ,,I was angry, yes. I have often said: I am leaving you. But I loved him too much.”
Robby had developed stomach ulcers, he was spitting blood. Cindy: ,,He didn't have a minute of rest. When he was at home, Gerrie called: go get me some meat or a video tape, he always had something. When Robby showed up a few minutes late, he would yell. We always argued because he couldn't say no to Gerrie. He often said: ''Today I will push that man off his balcony."
Cindy and Robby registered their intention to marry on December 12. Gerry was not allowed to know - he was already furious as Cindy and Robby walked down the street hand in hand. In the spring, Robby told Gerrie that a friend in Belgium was in hospital and that he often had to go there. He also said that his aunt had offered him a vacation to Spain with Cindy and Nina, and that he couldn't avoid it. Lies, and Gerrie Ulrich knew that, says Luk de Koninck. He threatened to cut Robby out of his will. De Koninck: ,,Robby was eating himself inside. He wanted the money, but he wanted to get rid of Gerrie."
According to his father, Robby was also pressured by former 'comrades' of the escort agency in Amsterdam. They had lost an important customer because of Robby: Gerrie Ulrich. And they had some stuff lying around, pictures and videotapes of Robby, which Robby probably didn't want his Cindy, or the police, to see.
At the end of May, Marcel Vervloesem, of the Belgian Morkhoven working group, telephoned Robby's mother. He was looking for a German boy, Manuel Schadwald, who had disappeared when he was twelve and ended up in the child porn circuit. Robby knew more about that. Because Robby abused, said Vervloesem, toddlers herself. Vervloesem wanted to talk to Robby. She called her son. He said he knew where Schadwald was, but he had absolutely nothing to do with child porn. Robby would call Vervloesem back.

That same evening he left a message on his mother's answering machine; panicked, the police had interrogated him for hours. According to his father, Luk de Koninck, Ulrich had already given child pornography material to the Morkhoven working group, including films by Robby with Manuel Schadwald. Robby himself was not allowed to know that, he did not want anything to come out.

Friday evening, June 12, Robby told Cindy that he was going out to Amsterdam. "I'll wake you up when I get home." He drove his Nissan station wagon to Gerrie Ulrich's flat, a few blocks away. They got on one of Robby's motorcycles, a white Honda Goldwing, and drove - they didn't have a motorcycle license - to Italy. Cindy didn't hear from Robby again. In the computer store was an envelope with a thousand guilders in front of her.
Over a week later, Cindy was standing in the kitchen looking out the window. Suddenly Gerrie Ulrich's sister-in-law was standing there. ,,You mustn't think'', he said, ,,that you will see your Robby come home.” The sister-in-law came to tell me that Gerrie was dead and Robby was imprisoned in Italy. And that Gerrie and Robby had made and sold child pornography together.
It was of course wrong, Cindy now says, that Robby shot Gerrie, if it wasn't an accident. But maybe it was my fault too. He must have done it for me and Nina. I pulled on one side of Robby, Gerrie on the other. I was always sad when he went to Gerrie."
Cindy now has a house in Mechelen, and she has applied for benefits. She wants to work, also to pay the lawyer. But first she wants to visit Robby in Prato prison. She wrote to him last week that she wants him to be transferred to a prison in the Netherlands or Belgium. She thinks Robby herself might prefer to stay in Italy, for fear of what awaits him in the child porn investigation. “But I want him around. That's better for me and Nina."
In the coming weeks she will have an AIDS test done, she says. "My mother would like that."

Gerrie Ulrich on his sailboat named the Apollo. ''Apollo'' was also the codename for all their ongoing activities.

A spicy detail during the trial is that the biological father of Van Der Plancken, Luk de Koninck, has been called as a witness for a charge by the Public Prosecution Service.
The man, also active in the porn business, emphatically interfered with his son's relationship with Ulrich, with whom he had business ties. Relatives have stated that De Koninck ensured that his son ended up in prostitution at a young age.
In an interview in March this year he stated that he was angry with his son because he had killed a profitable porn network with the murder of Ulrich.

Why is the fight against child trafficking so weak? Is it because it generates considerable profits in a market economy?
Illegal foreign minors escaping the network of social services and national education systems? Offspring prostituted with their parents' consent?
The Campbell report, discussed in the European Parliament in Brussels, confirms the existence of an Anglo-Saxon spy network (called Echelon), under the aegis of the USA, capable of monitoring and processing global communications, including telephone, fax, and Internet. But Interpol would not be capable of monitoring and neutralizing networks whose main actors are already known to the police? How can we not be shocked by this admission of impotence?
"In Zandvoort," we continued, "the IT company Cube Hardware was selling, among other things, child pornography. Its managers were in contact with the organizers of luxury cruises, with all-inclusive rates, including the provision of children, aboard the Apollo yacht. This sailboat sometimes picked up clients in Bordeaux. They were headed to the Netherlands, via England... In Gerrit Ulrich's address book, we noted contacts in the Netherlands, of course. But also in France, Great Britain, Spain, Sweden, the USA, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Poland, and Latvia. And banking references to Europabank for Reconstruction and Development, Crédit Agricole, Crédit Lyonnais, and the Spanish bank Banesto. Being in a criminal's address book doesn't make you an accomplice. But the address book of the late Gerrit Ulrich reveals a vast array of connections.
As for Judge Connerotte, he was removed from the Dutroux case on October 14, 1996. Three weeks earlier, he had dined in an Italian restaurant with the parents of child victims. A spaghetti motive to dismiss a curious judge. Julie and Mélissa's parents declared: "Our children have been murdered again." Protesting the planned burial of his investigation, Judge Connerotte wrote an open letter to the king: "We are probably witnessing the advent of a concept, that of protected or legitimate crime," wrote the magistrate. He denounced the judicial dysfunction that had been established as a veritable institution" and guaranteed the impunity of criminals. Judge Connerotte knows what he's talking about. Hasn't he already been removed from the case twice, in highly sensitive cases. Notably, the assassination of former minister André Cools?
It was in 1996, in the midst of the Dutroux affair, that France launched its first crackdown in April. Operation Toro Bravo officially begins with the seizure of a child pornography tape at the home of a Parisian executive. Fifteen months of investigation lead to the uncovering of a network involving seventy-two people. At its head are two child pornography road warriors, Michel Caignet and Jean-Manuel Vuillaume.
A notorious neo-Nazi, activist in the far-right group FANE (disbanded in 1987), and co-organizer of Adolf Hitler's centenary celebrations in France, Michel Caignet had for many years published homosexual magazines with pedosexual overtones: Gay-France Magazine, Le Gay Pavois, Alexandre, Sparte, etc. He played a role in the rise of Holocaust denial by translating Thies Christophersen's The Auschwitz Lie. His accomplice, the photographer and videographer Jean Manuel Vuillaume, alias JMV, was an old acquaintance. We had denounced his supposedly artistic activities in L'Humanité Dimanche in 1986. He ran a photo gallery, unequivocally, at 5 rue Médicis, in the 6th arrondissement of Paris... two hundred meters from the Senate! We wrote at the time: "Who are the high-ranking protectors of the protected networks?" Vuillaume, despite these revelations, was not questioned and felt empowered to persevere and expand his trafficking. As part of the Toro Bravo network, Vuillaume had relocated his activities to Colombia. In Bogota, he filmed the rape of children, sometimes as young as ten. The tapes were sold in France and Europe for 800 francs each. Caignet and Vuillaume are not only child and image traffickers. In one of their magazines, they theorize their perversion in political terms: "This fight for life, our life together: he, the child-boy, and I, the adult-man... the revolution is underway. Tomorrow we will be thousands." They were tried in June 1997 in Paris, solely for trafficking pornographic cassettes... In 1997, a second network case was launched in Saône-et-Loire. Hence the code name of the investigation: Ado 71. Here again, the investigations were structured around the marketing of video cassettes. Eight hundred searches! Three hundred and forty-five police custody cases, unusually publicized. Most of the suspects, often arrested in front of television cameras, were released. Five of them committed suicide. The case went to trial in May 2000. One of the French leaders of the network, named Alapetite will receive a three-year prison sentence. The other defendants will get suspended sentences or fines. At no point did the investigation seek to trace the organizers of the trafficking. International letters rogatory should have been sent to Germany. Suffice it to say that the completion of the investigation would have been postponed indefinitely... The third case in France, the same year, was the first sex tourism trial, in Draguignan, in the Var region. Also worth mentioning, during the same period, was the investigation into the Achille network, reported to the courts by the association Le Bouclier. Fifty arrests were made in twelve departments. To this day, the case has still not been brought to trial... Four major network cases investigated in France between 1996 and 1997 are a judicial curiosity that can only be explained by the context of the Dutroux affair. French public opinion is troubled and worried. These deliberately publicized cases are therefore intended to demonstrate that France is not Belgium and that a Dutroux case is impossible in France. Has the message really gotten through? Certainly not to a few families in the Yonne department who have been exhausting themselves for years demanding an investigation into the disappearance of their daughters, all slightly disabled and all in the care of the DDASS (Child Welfare Department)... At the same time as L'Humanité was making its revelations, on the other side of the Channel, Great Britain was uncovering a massive child abuse scandal involving numerous sexual assaults. The case reportedly involves 650 children in reception centers in Wales. More than 800 testimonies have been collected. Eighty adults have been charged. The names of two MPs and a lord have been mentioned. This violence had been reported by a social worker 25 years ago. This led to her immediate dismissal. In 1993, the English courts had already dealt with the Stamford case. This defrocked pastor published a homosexual guide, Spartacus, which had the distinction of offering its readers the best advice for sex tourism. Pastor Stamford had the kindness to die just before his trial, charged but free. Heart attack, according to the official version. He had only served four months in pretrial detention. Investigations into Spartacus were immediately halted. As if the death of its organizer wiped out the network. The late Reverend Stamford's troubles weren't caused by a legal initiative. It was an association, Terre des hommes, that filed a complaint in... 1981! Twelve years of impunity. The Zandvoort CD-ROM case originated with the Morkhoven association in Belgium. And the one called Achille was born from a complaint by Le Bouclier in Troyes. When we look at the results achieved through the tenacity of associations, we can imagine how effectively European police forces could combat this type of crime if they gave themselves the means! Operation Cathédrale, in 1998, provides an example of an investigation conducted on an international scale. The investigation began in the United States in 1996. American police discovered the existence of a pedocriminal association poetically named the Orchid Club. Members used a videoconferencing system that allowed them to remotely and live witness child sexual abuse and to contact the abusers to request specific actions. It was by unraveling this thread that the Wonderland Club was discovered. Its members described themselves as the elite of pedophilia. They used the Internet to engage in international image trafficking. Investigators were also struck by the technological sophistication of the computer resources used. After an investigation conducted by twelve police forces on three continents, one hundred and seven people were arrested in the United States, France, Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Australia. Investigators discovered no fewer than 750,000 images of child pornography and a video library of 1,800 digitized films. To join the club, members had to pay a "horror membership fee" and offer at least 10,000 unpublished photos of child abuse. Some police officers would confide the terrible shock they experienced.
The sight of these images sometimes revealed, according to them, appalling abuse of children ranging in age from a few months to adolescence. Some also expressed bitterness at the reluctance of their authorities to conduct work to identify victims and rapists. Of the 1,200 children identified (i.e., 1,200 different and recognizable faces), only 17 were identified, including seven in the United States and six in Great Britain. Of the 180 rapists visible in the documents, only a dozen were among the arrested club members. The investigation revealed a highly elaborate and well-thought-out organization, where security was a priority. Members had to memorize three passwords to access the club's websites. And even then, many documents were encrypted. To be admitted, applicants to the club had to provide guarantees and then be accepted by the club's leaders. Today, few people dare to dispute the existence of international networks. But at the time we made our revelations, their reality was strongly contested.
"Pedophiles quickly understood the advantages of a medium like the Internet [...]. Pedophile material can be traded or purchased. Rare material is expensive: $20,000 for a film in which children are tortured, or even put to death in hallucinatory rituals (snuff movies). But pedophile networks are not limited to the virtual world. Cruises and package tours are sold from catalogs. Child suppliers are recruited. Prices are reportedly determined according to the rarity of the "product." Identified children reportedly sell for more than foreigners of unknown marital status.
In our investigation, we provide a number of examples of anomalies we encountered: files that go astray for several months, telephone tap reports that disappear, exhibits that vanish—blatant examples of bias.
How did the Morkhovens get their hands on the CD-ROM? Flashback. Temse, Belgium, 1992. Café Monty is not an establishment like any other. On the ground floor, customers sip their drinks. On the first floor, the initiated consume rather special cassettes. Documents depicting child sexual abuse are circulating. The owner of this café has connections with an establishment in Hülst, in the Netherlands, the departure point for children bound for Studio Pauw in Utrecht, where they will be filmed. At the time, Marcel Vervloesem, of the Belgian Morkhoven association, is investigating the activities of one of Café Monty's customers. This intrusion disturbs the child sex workers of Temse. They then consider accusing Marcel of blackmail. They file a complaint against him. A serious mistake. The plot was quickly unmasked, but this incident gave Marcel access to the entire Temse file during the period he was under indictment. Belgian law allowed him to do so in order to prepare his defense. In this file, a photo of a man, taken from a child sex tape, with the note "this man has not been identified." It was in fact a Dutchman, Robert Van der Naaten, whom Marcel managed to locate. At the end of October 1997, he met Van der Naaten, accompanied by a crew from the Dutch television program "Nova." To clear his name, the pedophile gave him nine child pornography tapes. He wants to convince them that he's not doing anything serious with the children, and besides, a Belgian, Norbert De Rijk, is much more involved than he is. He seems to have a very questionable understanding of what the law allows him to do with children. In any case, Marcel hands over one of the tapes, titled "Madeira," to the Portuguese authorities. The document, filmed in that country, reveals the activities of several pedosexuals: a Belgian, the notorious Norbert De Rijk, the Dutchman Van der Naaten, and a Portuguese man, Agostina de Souza. They solicit children on the beach, take them to a hotel room, and film the sexual encounters they engage in with them. In fact, Madeira was already known to the Dutch, Belgian, and Portuguese police. The video had been seized in 1991, and an investigation file had remained open in Portugal since 1992, and could undoubtedly have remained that way for a very long time. But this time, Marcel Vervloesem's handover of the document to the Portuguese authorities was done in front of the cameras of RTP television correspondents in Madeira. A report was broadcast. The dormant investigation then accelerated in Portugal and led to several arrests in 1997. At the same time, a Belgian MP, Nelly Maes, was outraged. She had just discovered, in this report, the existence of the Belgian pedophile De Rijk, who continued to work quietly as a night watchman at the Temse hospital. However, this was not De Rijk's first attempt. A note sent by the Interpol service in The Hague to the one in Lisbon specifies that the latter had already been arrested in the Netherlands. Along with him were Casper Van Maasakers, Robby Van der Plancken, and Lothar Glandorf. These individuals had in common the possession of pornographic photos depicting Portuguese children. An investigation finally opened in Belgium led to the arrest of several pedophiles in Temse. But the tapes given to the Morkhovens by Van der Naaten aren't only set in Portugal. One of them features very young boys. One of them bears a striking resemblance to a twelve-year-old German boy, Manuel S., who disappeared.
Gerrit Ulrich was powering a computer server. Pojkart may have been the name of a deactivated server, as the Chancellery suggests. It's possible. We don't know. What we do know, however, is that Pojkart is also the name of a photo studio located in the former East Germany. It still exists. We spoke with its creator and director, a man in his seventies, who admits to having worked with French people such as Vuillaume and Bernard Alapetite. Two names that have reappeared regularly for a good twenty years in pedophilia cases. The head of Pojkart claims to have broken off this collaboration with these two Frenchmen because they had offered him documents that went too far and did not meet his artistic criteria. When we look at certain documents found in the CD-ROM files mentioning Pojkart, we might wonder what this man means by going too far... The head of Pojkart also claims to have never been questioned by or for the French police.
Documents found during a search related to a plan to create an orphanage in Romania. But the criminals didn't limit their activities to foreign countries. France was also part of their hunting ground. Children, both foreign and French, were traded, raped, filmed, photographed, and sent to all corners of France for these purposes. The Var investigation established that during the dismantling of the network, two Romanian minors were recovered by investigators and immediately granted protective measures. They were placed in a home. But these children did not testify at the trial. The administration responsible for their safety... lost them! Traces of one of them were found in Romania, the Netherlands, and then Great Britain. Then nothing. The other disappeared without a trace. In this case, the defendants were also prosecuted for "receiving, as part of an organized gang, the crime of recording pornographic images depicting minors under the age of fifteen for the purpose of distribution." The "organized gang" qualification is important; it validates the notion of a network. The offenders did not always take the trouble to produce their film. They also exchanged videos made by others. Prosecutor Étienne Ceccaldi confirmed to us that one of the defendants... lived in the Paris courthouse where a search was carried out! This individual had a habit of obtaining material from sealed sources, that is, he reintroduced into circulation child sexual abuse material already seized by the police. While these films were not used to search for child victims and their abusers, they were not lost to everyone! One of the defendants admitted that video material had been filmed within the walls of the Paris courthouse. We still wonder how children were able to circulate within this noble, well-guarded institution without anyone noticing. Some of the documents seized in the Draguignan investigation were appalling. Prosecutor Ceccaldi testified to this in front of the Canal + cameras for the program "90 Minutes: "We began showing them during the trial, but the screening was stopped after twenty minutes. The sight of children tortured to death, all for commercial gain, is truly unbearable.
According to one of the accused, one of the members of the group told him about the existence in Germany of cassettes showing children being raped and then killed. Moreover, this well-informed individual reportedly stated that he himself was looking for people who could make this type of film, and could lend a house in Morocco for this purpose.
In 1999, the forty-six-year-old child sex offender Michel Albenque was extradited to France. Nicknamed "Uncle Mimi," he had been arrested in Romania in 1996, in flagrante delicto. Canal +, in its program "90 Minutes," presented footage of this arrest, filmed by the Romanian police. A flagrant offense with a little boy, in a squalid room… Four years of investigations have established that Albenque supplied (for free, he claims) children, listed and classified according to their specialties, to civil servants, executives, educators, and doctors in the Chelles region, in Seine-et-Marne. These children, aged eight to fifteen, were selected from poor backgrounds, purchased from accommodating parents. Uncle Mimi, who never hesitated to pay the family's overdue rent, often took children to Disneyland on weekends or to Cap-d'Agde to "entrust" them to wealthy friends who were fans of fresh meat. During the investigation, eighteen people were indicted. Two were incarcerated for similar offenses in the Czech Republic. The others were released under judicial supervision.
Reason: the child in the file could not be her son since it was a Dutch child, a certain Björn N., positively identified by the police in his country. This revelation, so timely for the prosecution, troubles us. We have already been to the Netherlands to investigate the Zandvoort file. And the local authorities had assured us that no Dutch child had been identified in it. We are heading to the Netherlands again to check. Björn N. does indeed exist. He was the victim of sexual assault during his childhood. And the Dutch courts have established that this is the child raped and tortured shown on a terrible tape, which has been dubbed "The Björn Tape" in the Netherlands. His parents were heavily sentenced. But the former head of the Dutch child pornography unit, Jaab Hoeck, confirmed to us that Björn was not in the Ulrich file. We expressed our surprise and insisted that he check again. We explained to him that French investigators had reported contrary information.
We didn't just hand over the CD-ROM to the authorities. We handed over address books and diaries seized in Zandvoort. We heard nothing about them until Libération reported on May 23, 2000: The other lead raised by the media was the exploitation of Gerrit Ulrich's address book.
These were in fact addresses that belonged to one of his companions. It included the contact details of his bank, a restaurant, and a baker in Garches, where he had an apartment. It also included addresses in Spain, where this man, suffering from cancer, ended his days. Neighbors and doctors' phone numbers are some of the leads in this book. They lead nowhere.
So we only handed over to justice the contact details of the bank and baker of a friend of Gerrit Ulrich? We also provided the court with a copy of the notebook of Robby Van der Plancken, Ulrich's friend and murderer, along with contact information related to the Madeira affair, and other documents. But let's open the notebooks of Ulrich and his entourage. Alongside the baker's address are some bank details:
1. A joint account, in US dollars, with a woman named Corinne Z. at a Crédit Lyonnais branch in Paris's 12th arrondissement.
Another Joint account with a certain Van G., who we will find at the National Bank of Ukraine.
2. An account at Crédit Lyonnais-Ukraine, domiciled at Khreshe Chatyk, 2, in Kyiv, with a certain Bernard S. as correspondent.
3. Another at the National Bank of Ukraine, this time with a contact named Dr. L. G. P. Van G., who also has a pied-à-terre in Garches. Other contacts at this bank: Vassily P., Nadesha P., Viktor J., Zoja G., Valentina K., Victor K., Pavel S., Tatjana V., Viktor Z., Ludmila P., Oleh R., Volker H., Perry P., Jurgen S., Jay D., Pat P., Igor A., Viktor M., and Tatjana N.
4. A reference to Werelbank, in Washington DC, USA, but also in Kyiv. 5. A contact with a Nadeshda, who holds important responsibilities at the National Bank of Ukraine, 9 Institutska Street, Kyiv.
6. The address of Michael B. in Riga, and the contact information of John D. (a Frenchman) and Olivier F. in Washington, DC, and Camille R.-D. in Marseille. All work at the World Bank.
7. The contact information of Leonid I. at the Comm Bank of Social Development.
8. A relation, Nina, at Exim Bank, and another, Vlodimir, at Oschadny Bank.
9. An account at Crédit Agricole de Garches.
10. Two contacts, Karen W. and Katherine C., at the Berrents Group in Kyiv. 11. A correspondent at the State Export Import Bank of Ukraine, Peter S.
12. Four contacts, George F., Irina K., Sergei M., and Bogdan P., at the famous EBRD, the European bank created to participate in the reconstruction and development of Eastern Bloc countries after the fall of the Berlin Wall.
13. A reference to ABN AMRO in Zandvoort, and another in Haarlem to ABN AMRO Private Banking. Private banking is a set of services offered by major banks to avoid the rigors of the tax authorities. This makes their clients less tempted to stray into competition in the Channel Islands, Monaco, or the Cayman Islands. The bank can thus enable money laundering operations by competing with tax havens on their own turf... A bank only offers its private banking services to its wealthiest clients. For the courts to explain that they lack the means to verify and trace these leads, which would require a multitude of international letters rogatory, etc., would be worrying but credible. But to claim that Ulrich's notebooks only contain the addresses of innocuous service providers borders on disinformation. It also reveals a cheerful optimism about the effectiveness of our police services. Writing that the leads in the notebooks lead nowhere assumes they have all been traced." However, the article is dated May 23, a little over a month after the notebooks were handed over. And there are plenty of contact details in the notebooks. To believe that the French judicial services could have carried out the necessary investigations in such a short time is a sign of sympathetic credulity, almost akin to faith in miracles! We have never claimed that every address (there's even the telephone number of the Saint-Cloud police station!) corresponded to an accomplice in pedosexual debauchery. We even wrote the opposite: "The fact that you appear in Ulrich's address book does not make you an accomplice" (L'Humanité, February 24, 2000). Let's imagine that a narcotics squad had come across such notebooks. Would it have hesitated to take all the measures required by the 1970 law to question everyone listed, even if it were a hairdresser or the local baker? We had pointed out in our articles that Ulrich had numerous contacts in France: in Garches, Dijon, Champigny-sur-Marne, Tours, Granville, La Ciotat (where a child sex ring was dismantled a few years ago, involving a photographer "specializing in taking pictures of minors from Eastern Europe), in Lyon and Paris. To our knowledge, no verification has been carried out in this area. If there had been, Libération would not have failed to inform its readers... In any case, the address books were not distributed to the local SRPJ, nor to the national gendarmerie.

F.D.L.E. says they have shut down international child pornography ring
[Detectives confer during the raid yesterday afternoon at the Zandvoort computer store Cube Hardware. The liquidated owner of the company is the main suspect in the child pornography case.]
[Last week's press conference by the Kennemerland police in response to the Zandvoort child pornography case. The media was very interested.]
['Victims of Zandvoort child pornography affair recognized' Residents of Emmer-Compascuum in Drenthe say they recognize two girls from their village in child pornography photos from the collection of Zandvoort resident Gerrie Ulrich and from the internet. The mother of one of the girls also recognized her daughter with "certainty bordering on certainty". The discovery is the result of research by the Haarlem agency Zoeklicht. The photos prove that there was indeed sexual abuse of children, say several parents who want to force the judiciary to launch a new criminal investigation into the so-called sex cellar affair. The affair brought the public primary school De Dreef in Emmer-Erfscheidenveen into the news in 1997. In the spring of 1997 it turned out that pupils had been abused by older pupils. Several boys from the highest groups confessed. Later, teachers were also named as perpetrators. The children were allegedly abused in cellars under the school. The public prosecutor and later TNO conducted an investigation, but did not find the so-called sex cellars. The Public Prosecution Service then dropped the case. Nevertheless, several parents persist in their fight. They want the judiciary to come to a conclusion via the court of appeal. force new investigation. In addition to photos found in the collection of murdered Zandvoort resident Ulrich, this concerns material found by Zoeklicht in newsgroups of pedophiles on the internet. In order to track down the perpetrators, the working group placed photos on its own internet page. The researchers were then approached by the parents and others from Emmer-Compascuum who thought they recognized a girl from the village. After seeing more photos, the villagers identified two girls with certainty. The girls are being abused by adults in the photos. The parents' lawyer, W. Anker, has submitted their statements to the court.]
[Home of main suspect searched three times in June ''Police left evidence of child pornography behind'' In June, the Kennemerland police searched the home of the liquidated main suspect of the international child pornography case at De Favaugeplein in Zandvoort three times. This was done at the request of the concerned family of the 49-year-old Zandvoorter. However, the police did not specifically search for incriminating material. Despite indications from the family and the man's past indecent acts, the police left the illegal diskettes with child pornography behind. The murdered main suspect was convicted last July of indecent acts with an underage boy. At the time, the Alkmaar court sentenced him to one hundred hours of community service and a six-month suspended prison sentence. The man committed indecent acts with a 14-year-old boy between 1989 and 1991. According to spokesperson H. Vos of the Kennemerland police, the main suspect is 'completely irrelevant to the man's indecent past. We will not discuss cases that happened earlier. If someone has been caught twice, we will not immediately pull him over the next time." The main suspect was visiting Italy with his business partner and friend last month. His family members panicked when the man stayed away longer than planned. Fearing that something had happened to him, they alerted the police on 16 June. They also suspected that unknown persons had visited the house on the De Favauge square with the family. The police visited the house together but found nothing suspicious. A second visit, five days later, also yielded nothing. On 22 June, the police were informed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs about the violent death of the man in Italy. The family again requested a search of the Zandvoort flat. They expressed the suspicion that the man was involved in pornography. During this third visit, only computers and parts were taken. The thousands of diskettes with child pornography were left behind in the house. In desperation, a female family member decided to break into the house on 27 June to look for the child pornography. She (and a woman who accompanied her) were arrested by the police. It is suspected that more people were involved in this break-in. The Kennemerland police called in the assistance of the Hollands Midden police force shortly after the break-in. The request was to look out for a car with a Belgian license plate, with three occupants who had 'broken into the house of a murdered Zandvoort resident'.]
[Victim hears nothing more from police 'Zandvoort resident also made child pornography himself' The linchpin in the Zandvoort child pornography network, the resident of the seaside resort who was recently shot dead in Italy, also made child pornography himself. This was stated yesterday evening by one of his victims (under the pseudonym 'Ronald') in the current affairs programme Nova. The man reported himself to the police three weeks ago. In April 1996, Ronald reported abuse by the Zandvoort resident to the police in Den Helder in the period 1989-1991. According to the victim, photos had been taken of this abuse. After Ronald's report, the Zandvoort police searched the perpetrator's flat at the request of the Den Helder police force, but nothing was found. The Zandvoort police were not informed that child pornography could be found in the flat. Ronald's report of child pornography was not investigated at all, as the Den Helder police confirmed to Nova. A lawsuit was filed against the Zandvoort resident, but only for sexual abuse. He got off with a light community service order of one hundred hours. Two residents of Texel, through whom the Zandvoort resident had come into contact with Ronald, were also convicted of abusing the boy. Last year, the Alkmaar court sentenced the residents of Texel to three years in prison and 140 hours of community service respectively. When the child pornography case became public last month, Ronald reported to the police again. Nothing has been done with his information so far. According to a spokesperson for the judiciary, the tips (there are now 130) are being inventoried and processed in order of priority. Ronald's tip only concerns a sideline, according to the spokesperson.]
According to Ronald, it was known in the neighborhood among the parents and children about Gerrie's activities and a friend of him. who joined in the abuse.
[Possible new suspect in child pornography case - Robby van der Plancken's father is also involved in the Zandvoort child pornography case. A family member and Van der Plancken's girlfriend told this newspaper. The father himself says he is in possession of heavy pornographic material in which children are abused. Robby van der Plancken, one of the main suspects in the affair, is still in an Italian prison. The possible new suspect is the Belgian Luk de Koninck, who lives in Geleen. De Koninck left his wife and children when Robby van der Plancken was one year old. He then took his stepfather's surname. When the second main suspect in the Zandvoort porn case, Gerrie Ulrich, started a relationship with the young Belgian in 1997, De Koninck turned up in the seaside resort. He visited Ulrich's apartment on Favaugeplein almost every week. That came to an end when his son shot Ulrich dead in Tuscany, Italy, in 1998. According to De Koninck, this incident caused financial damage to criminals from the porn scene. "It also cost me a lot of money," he admits. He fears revenge attacks on Van der Plancken when he returns to the Netherlands. De Koninck therefore does not mind that his son will not be released for the time being. For fear of reprisals, De Koninck refuses to hand over the child pornography he claims to have in his possession to the police. The investigation team of the Kennemerland Police does not want to respond to Luk de Koninck's statements 'in the interest of the investigation'.]
['Zandvoort child porn suspect was an informant' - Robby, the Belgian main suspect in the Zandvoort child porn case, was an informant for the Rotterdam police. According to spokesperson Vervloesem of the Belgian working group Morkhoven, he told people about the whereabouts of the Berlin boy Manuel Schadwald, who was kidnapped years ago by Robby and who is still missing. The Belgian is currently in custody in Pisa, Italy, on suspicion of the murder of Zandvoort child porn boss Ulrich, with whom he had a relationship. Despite two Dutch requests, the Italian justice system has not yet made a decision on the extradition of the Belgian and according to a police spokesperson, that could take some time. Robby has been in prison in Pisa since the end of June. According to Robby's lawyer De Ranieri, the 23-year-old Belgian will not contest his extradition to the Netherlands. According to the lawyer, Robby will be temporarily deported. This means that after questioning in the Netherlands, he will have to be sent back to Italy to be tried there for the murder of Ulrich.]
According to Cindy Mehauden, Robbie was also befriended with Ruud van Dam (Utrecht) & Alex Prive a.k.a. Karel Maasdam
Shortly afterwards, the Oss police received a message that the Ulrich family were afraid that Gerrie Ulrich's home would be "emptied". Ulrich and Robby had become "rich" from porn activities in which Cindy Mehauden also played a role. In the meantime, a half-brother of Ulrich was on his way to Zandvoort to collect items from the home. He would report to the Zandvoort police station. The family wanted nothing to do with porn activities and requested help from the police in securing computers that allegedly contained information relating to those porn activities.
He also said that Ulrich and Van Der Plancken would be involved in child pornography worldwide, including via the Internet. Ulrich had a secret bank account, where the income from the Internet was deposited. An important man would do their bookkeeping, named Jan Van Es.
Vervloesem said he had seen ZIP disks containing child pornography. Van Der Plancken's girlfriend, Cindy, had told him she had seen this too. When asked, Vervloesem said he had taken Van Der Plancken's diaries - containing interesting contacts - and diskettes from Van Der Plancken and Cindy's home. Cindy had also told him that Rudi van Dam, from Studio De Pauw in Utrecht, had supplied boys to Gerrie Ulrich. A boy named Stefan Drielle [fon] often visited Gerrie and was also said to be aware of this. This Stefan would rent a room from Rudi Van Dam. Finally, he said that in 1992 the police had raided Waalre at the time that Van Der Plancken, together with Glandorf and Ryck, wanted to trade 2 underage boys (younger brothers of Robby). Van Der Plancken was not prosecuted for this.
The following are statements from Cindy Mehauden to the police:
I can now remember that Marcel told me on the phone that Saturday night that Marcel and Robby had an appointment at Leidse- or Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. Gerrie was also present at that appointment. I don't know when that appointment was. Marcel had come there with another man. Marcel told me that when Robby was talking to that other man, Gerrie told Marcel that he had become a little afraid of Robby. He didn't tell me why he was afraid.
After I could no longer reach Robby, I contacted Robby's father. His name is Luc de Coninck. I had told him briefly what I had heard. I can tell you the following about Luc. Luc is a good friend of Gerrie's. He came to Gerrie's one weekend a month and stayed there. Luc got in touch with Gerrie through Robby. Luc took advantage of Gerrie. He regularly received money from Gerrie. Luc never came to our house. He was always with Gerrie and Robby. When Luc came to Gerrie's, Luc's girlfriend was there too. Her name is Toos and she lives in Geleen. Luc came to my house once. This was on the Sunday after June 19, 1998. Luc came with Gerrie's father and mother, Gerrie's brother and sister-in-law and Luc's girlfriend. They all told me bad things about Robby. She told me that Robby had played in sex films and that he had a sexual relationship with Gerrie and that there were several sex photos of Robby. Luc was actually making fun of Robby at that moment. Those things would all be at Gerrie's. They suggested that I go to Gerrie's house but I didn't want to and
You ask me how much debt Robby and I had. The fact is that I stated that Gerry would pay all our debts. I myself actually had no debts. It was Robby who had those debts. I do not know exactly how much debt he had. I do know that he had built up the debts by buying a car. That was a Lancia Dedra. It was not a new car. I do not know what he paid for it. Gerry also paid the rent for that apartment. You ask me what the relationship between me and Robby was like. I can tell you that we had a lot of arguments. I was also hit by Robby now and then. We had a lot of arguments about Gerry. I was tired of Gerry. I did not want to continue like that. It happened once that Robby locked me in his car. I will not have been in there for hours. You tell me that blood was found in the house. I have never seen blood in the house. I would not know how it got there either. It is absolutely not mine. The reason we left Gerry's flat and went to live on the Hogeweg in Zandvoort is that I didn't like it with Gerry anymore. We had absolutely no privacy with Gerry. Robby actually wanted to leave Gerry too. Robby was actually just blackmailed by Gerry to stay with him. As I have stated before, he threatened to throw us out on the street.
You ask me about Luc de Coninck. Luc is Robby's father, as you know. However, he never looked after Robby. When Robby had a car from Gerry he could go wherever he wanted. He drove to his father once during that time. We were already living on Karel Doormanlaan when Gerry's father suddenly came to visit us. I had already seen Luc meet Gerry before. Luc met Gerry when he went to Gerry's computer shop with Robby. Luc was crazy about computers. He also has a computer at home and works on it a lot. In the beginning Luc slept over at Robby and me once or twice. Later he stayed over at Gerry's. Luc was usually accompanied by his girlfriend Toos and his two dogs. In the beginning I had a good feeling about Luc. After Robby got into trouble in Italy Luc promised to guarantee the costs of a lawyer for Robby. When push came to shove and a starting capital had to be deposited for the lawyer I got nothing from him. So I paid all the costs myself with my benefits. He should never have acted as an intermediary and then done nothing. Luc had at least six boxes of cameras in my storage room. They were all old cameras. That was his collection. The reason these cameras were with us was that Luc had debts in Belgium and he was afraid that the cameras would be confiscated. Luc picked up these cameras about 14 days after Robby was arrested in Italy. I don't know why he picked them up. I didn't ask him either.
You ask me whether Marcel van Vloesem filmed in my flat. That is not the case. No photos were taken either. The last time Marcel was in my flat he was in the company of two or three other people. He said he was afraid of Luc de Coninck. He also told me that he had heard from Luc that Robby had better stay in Italy because otherwise he would kill him.
You say that the Scherrenburg family thinks that I have something to do with child pornography. I don't know why they think that. I have never actually spoken to the people. I went out to dinner with them for the first time at Christmas.
You tell me that Rob Brouwer stated that I told him that my Robby had to go to the Warmoesstraat office in Amsterdam to be heard about child trafficking. I never spoke about the Warmoesstraat office. I have never been there. I think this is about the conversation that Robby had with Marcel van Vloesem on the Rembrandtsplein in Amsterdam. I was there too. That conversation was about child trafficking and about a boy from Germany. I think he misunderstood this.
The following are statements from Marcel Vervloessem to the police:
"I work for the Morkhoven working group, located in Antwerp. I lead the research department. The other department is the complaints department. The working group has existed since 1989. I have been there from the beginning. It started with abuses in child psychiatry and problems with wheelchairs. During the research into child psychiatry we came into contact with child abuse, and since then we have also focused on that. In 1992 we started the child pornography network Temse. The working group consists of 20 people, but 5 people work on it full-time. It consists entirely of volunteers. We do not receive any subsidies. Our approach is quite direct, we approach people, but also observe.
The investigation into Robby van der Plancken started with the disappearance of Manuel Schadwald in 1993, in which we were asked by the Belgian minister to cooperate. We knew that Robby had been arrested in Waalre in 1992 with Lothar Glandorf and Norbert de Ryck. From the Temse file we found out that Glandorf had contact with Warwick Spinks, about whom we knew nothing at the time. From England we learned that he had transported a child to Amsterdam in England, and was arrested for that. We also identified Robert van der Naaten in the Temse investigation. When observing Van Der Naaten we learned that he went to an address on the Amstel in Amsterdam, where Spinks was also. The Temse material came to light via Van Der Naaten. About the address he said that he had passed it on to a good friend, Warwick Spinks. He also gave us material about Spinks. Afterwards I discovered that Spinks often visited the Pinocchio bar in Berlin, which was also a meeting place for Robby van der Plancken, Russel Tricker, Derek Brown and others. From conversations with Tricker and Spinks it became clear that they were actively transferring children from Berlin to Amsterdam, the Toffs apartments, on the Ruysdaelkade. These children were 11 to 12 years old. They kept blaming each other, but we also received material from them, which proved this. Via a social worker, Ludwig Auster, the children were transferred to apartments rented by Spinks. We know for sure about 2 children. The first one was in May 1991, two children of about 12 years old who were taken by Auster brought to the Ruysdaelkade, where Spinks, Brown, and the now deceased Dunstance were present. Brown has stated this in writing and given the booking of the apartment. According to him, Spinks took 1 to his brothel at Spuistraat 44B in Amsterdam. David Rennert, called 'The Jew', an Israeli, also had that brothel. Brown and Dunstance are said to have taken the other child to a house. He did not say where that was, but I suspect to Dunstance's house. According to Tricker, Auster brought children 5 times.
Tricker has an extensive archive about this. Via Peter Goetjes we later came across Robby van der Plancken. Goetjes is known to Staps of the Rotterdam police. Goetjes stated to the German police that in February 1993 an Opel Kadett was stolen in Berlin on the orders of Glandorf. We knew that Glandorf had contacts in Berlin. We heard from Goetjes that Robby had stayed with him for months in Berlin in 1993. Goetjes said that he himself had earned a lot of money with child trafficking. He supplied Glandorf, and a Michael Vosse from the Djamboetistraat in Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Goetjes then also told us about Robby's contacts with Spinks and Brown, and that Robby was in the porn business, and went to many countries. Robby was also active in child trafficking, according to Goetjes. A contact of Robby's would also be Lutz Edelman, from Berlin. Incidentally, we thought for a long time that Rob was someone other than Robby van der Plancken. We received many letters from Tricker from Rafael Beth, a youth worker in Amsterdam, with whom we have contacts. In 1994 we received faxes from Interpol Lisbon, in which the connection between Robby and Glandorf and De Ryck was still apparent. This is the Temse investigation. So he kept coming back. That's how we kept finding him on porn videos around the investigation into the Madeira/Temse ties. He stood out to all the porn companies, such as Gero, Teen Sex, Holland Boys International etc. It seemed to us that he would know more, so we focused on him.
Because we wanted to confront Robby with this, we contacted Robby's mother in May 1998, because we did not know his address. This is Mrs. Frida Mampaey, living at De Vrijheidstraat verm. 28 in Boom, Belgium. She was very loose-lipped. I asked her about Robby. She said that he was in Berlin or the Netherlands. She said that a Lothar Glandorf sometimes came to see Robby. I asked for a photo of Robby, and then she showed me a photo of Robby with a friend from England. She said that the man's name was Gary. I got that photo from her later. Shortly afterwards, Robby called me. I immediately asked him about his involvement in Schadwald's disappearance, and mentioned Goetjes's name. Robby wondered whether he had snitched. Robby wanted to talk to me, and we agreed to meet on the same day at Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam. That evening we, a colleague, and Bert Behrend and Dirk Banze from the Berliner Morgenpost. This was at cafe l'Opera. Robby was there with his wife Cindy. Robby then told me that he was in Berlin. I told him that he had taken Manuel with him. He denied that. He told me that Lothar Glandorf had done that. He told me that Lothar had taken him at 22:00, with another boy named Bjorn. He told me that they had driven to Hamburg, where Lothar had also picked up two boys. He denied that he had been there himself, but that must have been the case, because otherwise he could not have known this. Lothar was driving an Opel at the time. They went to Rotterdam, where Manuel worked in Lothar's brothel for a while. When a fax arrived from the Berlin police with a request to the Rotterdam police to arrest Manuel in Lothar's brothel, according to Robby, Manuel was quickly transferred to Amsterdam. I think Lothar must have been tipped off by two police officers from Germany, because those two were visitors to Pinocchio and Datcha, also a bar in Berlin. According to Robby, Manuel then went to work for an escort agency in Amsterdam, and was a regular visitor to the Festival bar in the Paardenstraat in Amsterdam. Robby also said that Manuel Schadwald has longer hair and three earrings in his left ear. He also said that he would be in the company of a Thomas with red hair. He did not say who that was exactly. We had already heard that from Stefan Wachs, a German who is also active in the porn scene in Germany. Robby said that he would go straight to a transvestite named Ricky in the bar Festival, because he would know very well that Manuel went there. We had also been to that Ricky, and then we showed him pictures of Spinks and Schadwald. He recognized both as visitors. He said that Manuel had been there three weeks earlier, in the company of a boy with red hair. A German journalist, named Brocken, is said to have heard from three people that Manuel came to the bar. However, Ricky denied this via German TV. We were then called by a German boy, who said that Ricky had traded him in the past. Robby also said that he knew Spinks, Glandorf and Goetjes well. During this conversation, a second team of ours discovered a man, who took pictures of the conversation. That man was followed by this team, and then entered a building, which later turned out to be De Favaugeplein 21 in Zandvoort. Later it turned out that this was Gerrie Ulrich.
About the next day I called Robby for a follow-up appointment. I called him at a computer company in Zandvoort. Robby had given me that number at the first appointment. We had brought a camera crew from the RTBF, including Jose Dessart. Robby cooperated, in my opinion, because we were well informed about his past. We had also drawn on the Temse file. When Robby was not there yet, we saw the man from the photos of the first appointment, Gerrie Ulrich, walking nearby. Robby then came to the appointment alone. In the interview he told more or less the same Schadwald story. He also told about Glandorf. He told the stories in which he himself indicated that he had only been a witness, and not a perpetrator. At one point Robby wanted to make a phone call. He did so in a telephone booth, and Ulrich immediately came to stand there. Robby then came back and continued the interview. Ulrich then walked by, and I invited him to join us! He then said he was Robby's friend, and I spoke to him. We all went to eat afterwards. During the meal, Ulrich secretly gave me a beer mat with a number on it, and asked me to call him, but Robby was not allowed to know about it. When leaving, it turned out that Dessart's car had a wheel clamp, but also that a briefcase and a laptop computer had disappeared from the car, without any damage from breaking in. I suspect that Robby called someone when he called to make this possible. Dessart then filed a report. The briefcase was later found, but the computer was no longer there. Robby received a photo of Manuel Schadwald from us, by fax at Cube Hardware received, to see if this was the same person. This was at his request. He then said that this was the boy he meant. Spinks also recognized him. At the Rembrandtplein we showed him a number of photos of missing children. Among them was a photo of Till Kratsch, which he received because he said he recognized him from the club at Alex Prive/Karel van Maasdam.
The next day Ulrich called me to thank me for the meal. He said that he urgently wanted to talk to us, but in the late hours, and without Robby knowing. He asked me if he could still trust Robby, now that he had heard about Schadwald. That day, June 11, 1998, a few hours later, Patrick Verhoeven and I drove to Ulrich's house. He was not home yet, and we had to wait a while. When he arrived he told us that he had been to dinner. We went to his house and he tried to find out as much as he could about us. He told us that Robby had his computer in his living room. He also told me that he was ill and did not have much longer to live, and about his inheritance. At one point he said that Robby might be tracked down, but he emphasized that Robby had also been a victim, and that he could prove it. He showed a folder with photos and said that in all the photos where Robby was without a wolf head he was a minor, and an adult in the photos with a wolf head. He said that those photos had been taken by Rudi van Dam. He also said that he had received many calls from English people asking about Robby, and he found that strange. I asked him for more material. I then also received two video tapes with Robby on them. I asked him about the many computers in his home. I bluffed that he was busy with child pornography on the Internet. I combined the number of computers in his home with that. He admitted that, but he said that it made him sick. I suggested that he give it to me, if it made him so sick. At first he did not want that. Later he gave us an envelope with a disc in it, which he gave us anyway. Later it turned out to be the important jazz disc. He told us that he was planning to go on holiday with Robby, and gave us his mobile phone number.
I took the disc, the 2 videos and the photos. The videotapes were of Teen Sex and Sperma Boys. Robby was of legal age on those. I also took a 3rd videotape. There is a boy on it who looks like Manuel Schadwald. We thought it was strange that he gave us this tape, which came from his bedroom. It was a tape without a cover. He only said that this tape could be interesting for us, but did not mention the resemblance to Manuel. He also gave us some floppies. All of this came from a desk, which Ulrich said was Robby's desk. Ulrich said that he, Ulrich, worked in the hallway by the computers. The floppies came from Robby's desk. I think Ulrich tested us by giving us a small piece of his material. I think the reason was that he was afraid of the phone calls from England, and Robby's contact with Spinks, which he knew about. I think Ulrich had problems with the people from England. I don't know how that happened, but I suspect he was threatened. He said he wanted to get out of child pornography because he didn't have long to live. He was also very upset about the contacts between Robby and Spinks. In my opinion Ulrich couldn't get out of child pornography. Ulrich was afraid that he would lose his fiancée, Robby, because of an arrest, in connection with the Schadwald case, and was sad about that. I think this has to do with his last year of life. He explicitly said that Robby was a victim. After the conversation he took us to his computer company. Because he wanted to help us he gave us. and photo scanner. Then we said goodbye. If there was anything we could we call him.
About three days later Ulrich called me in the morning, around 08.30, probably on a Monday. I can still find the exact date. He said that he was in Lyon with Robby, but Robby was not allowed to know that he was calling him. He said that when he got back he would give us material that was supposedly under his floor. After that we were never able to contact him again: his answering machine was always on. We could not reach him at work either. Only then did we see, due to technical problems, that the jazz disc contained horrific child pornography. A few days after the last contact with Ulrich, in the week of 15/19 June 1998, we went to Robby's mother again because we had copied the photo of Robby and Gary and wanted to return it. I was there with Patrick. There was a car in front of the house with a dirty little man in it. Mrs. Mampaey was deathly pale. She said that it was convenient. Inside was a man who introduced himself as Luc de Coninck, Robby's stepfather. He told me that Robby was in prison in Italy because he had shot Gerrie dead after buying a revolver in Lyon. I asked how he knew that. By the way, Ulrich had already told me that De Coninck regularly stayed with Ulrich. De Coninck told me that he had been called by an embassy. I asked how he knew that so well, and whether he had perhaps been there himself. He then became very nervous. He told me that he thought that the motorcycle they had left on holiday with was in Breda. I asked how he knew that. He did not want to talk about it any more. He then called Cindy, and then made contact between us and Cindy. Cindy then asked us to come urgently. Luc said that there would be a computer there. I then showed De Coninck my photos of Robby. He, and Frida too, already knew about that. I suspect that De Coninck brought this motorcycle from Italy to Breda. Only then did I tell him that I had recently been in touch with Ulrich, while he was in Lyon. De Coninck told me about his contacts in Russia, but I didn't understand anything. Then De Coninck left. In the hall Patrick heard him say to Frida: 'I'll kill her too'. Later Frida warned us about Luc, that he was a dangerous man, and that he was in the arms trade.
After that we drove to Cindy in Zandvoort. Because of the information from Frida we had taken a second team with us first, because we expected something of a trap, because Luc had pushed us so much to go to Cindy. We then spoke to Cindy. She helped us with selecting floppy disks, which we wanted to take with us. In the middle of the night Luc called Cindy, while we were still there, to ask what we had done there. Cindy gave us letters from an Englishman with Robby, and a card from that man. This man's name is Gary Laffy. We also took floppy disks, two agendas and photos from her. In an agenda I immediately found an address in Lyon. The next day Luc called me, on June 26, 1998. He asked if we had found Robby's pocket computer. We hadn't. He said that it was important. We then called Cindy, who didn't like that Luc had called about that. We were allowed to have that pocket computer of couple, on which we drove there. The night before we had heard that Luc spoke to Cindy about 300 cameras. We also saw them lying in the cellar.
As we were walking away from there, I received a mobile phone call from a woman who wanted to talk to us, but first wanted to know who we were and what we were doing. I then gave NOVA as a reference. The woman told me that Luc de Coninck had called her and given her our number. We then agreed to meet the woman at De Lucht, on the night of Friday to Saturday, together with NOVA. I didn't know exactly what it was about. We met two women there, who said that they knew that Gerrie Ulrich was dead, and that they had then gone to Gerrie's apartment with Luc and the police. Luc had then shown child pornography on the computer. I thought it was strange that Luc was there again. I then said that we had to react quickly because the material could possibly be taken away by someone else, and also told them about the secret space under the floor of the house. I have already made a statement to the police in Belgium about what happened next. What struck me was that the two women seemed to know exactly where that secret storage space was. They had found the bulkheads like that, while I had expected a hatch in the ground. They did take a brown envelope with a printed circuit board. We looked at it, but it did not contain any child pornography, only information about Van Gasselt. The envelope was given to us by the women, and they removed it from under the floor. We then drove to Belgium. There we tried to reach the women, and we heard that they had been arrested. We contacted their husbands, and at their request they collected material from me. This concerned the items I had received from Ulrich, with the exception of the jazz disc, and a letter from me. I heard that the house was broken into later. I suspect that Luc de Coninck did this, but I cannot prove that.
Something went wrong with the transfer of the jaz disc, among other things. It turned out that not everything had been copied by NOVA. The original jaz disc is now in the possession of the police in Belgium. Later, we received material from the two women, via NOVA, that they may have taken from Ulrich's cars. Cindy told me that she had seen child pornography on Ulrich's computers. She also said that she had been threatened by Robby. If she were to tell about it, she would never see her daughter again. She told us this during our second visit.
You want to come back to the fax and the contact with Nick Davies, of The Guardian and the New York Times, who has been following Spinks for years. I know that Nick has contact with a certain Dominique. His real name is Stanley, I do not know his last name. This Dominique is the friend of Warwick Spinks. He offered photos for sale to the Berliner Morgenpost, for 5000 German marks, with pictures of Warwick Spinks with children in a cage etc. These were about 40 photos. Through this Dominique, Nick Davies found out that Robby van der Plancken had contacted Warwick about a false passport that Robby would need to go into hiding in England. Just before Robby was to travel to Italy, this information came to us via Nick Davies. I am also aware that Robby had a conversation of a few hours at the end of May and beginning of June 1998 at the police station in Amsterdam, Warmoesstraat, in connection with a letter that was sent from prison by Glandorf to the Amsterdam police. The contents of that letter are unknown to me. I do know that Gerrie Ulrich was aware of it, and that he was very worried about it.
Another possible contact of Robby is someone who is also known in the Temse investigation, namely Arthur Fey KOPER.
You ask me where Robby's brothers live. Harald lives with his mother Frida. I don't know about Sammy. Sammy was active at Alex Prive, and Harald at Glandorf. I know that from conversations with Robby, and previous information.

In February 1992, Robbie van der P. openly came into conflict with Lothar G, aka 'de Rat', in a building in the Brabantse Waalre. Porn-Lothar, as the boys' and child pornography trader has been known to German justice for years, had managed to bring Robbie's two underage brothers to the house. With an excuse, it turns out quickly, they were brought from Belgium to Waalre.
For the then 17-year-old Robbie, gay whore and protagonist in the Zandvoort child pornography gang, it was immediately clear: Lothar also wanted to involve his teenage brothers in the sex games in the house.
"Robbie openly admitted that he sold himself to men, but he wanted to prevent his brothers from going the same way," said Detective Morals T. Verhees, who investigated the sex case in Waalre at the time. 'Both wanted to start a whore room for men in Rotterdam together. But because he brought the boys back to his parents, Robbie openly came into conflict with Lothar. "
Six years later, Robbie van der P., now a rascal, porn actor and prostitute, figures in one of the biggest child pornography cases in recent years. Although neatly married, he still sells his body. As he did to fellow gang member Gerry Ulrich from Zandvoort, until his death.
Robbie is traveling suspiciously. "Honey, sorry I suddenly left again," he writes to his wife when he is back in Berlin. For the smuggling of children, he admitted in an interview last month.
Since last month, Robbie has been detained in Pisa for murdering his fellow gang member Gerry Ulrich. The Netherlands has requested its extradition. Lothar G. has also been under lock and key since 1995, following a conviction for trafficking in children.
The name of Lothar G. now also appears in the Zandvoort file. The small Waalre affair, for which only the Belgian Norbert D.R. was condemned is one of the things that, according to activists against child pornography, make clear that a sex network exists in Europe.
It is a closed circuit of producers, traders and abused children, in which the Netherlands would play an important role as one of the most important production and distribution countries. It would all happen here: rapes at sea in the yacht Apollo by gang member Ulrich, boys who would have been raped in Hulst and Utrecht for the benefit of porn films and photo reports, German boys who were smuggled to Amsterdam for prostitution.
Although the judiciary and police in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany have never found any evidence for such an international porn circuit, it is striking that in many cases that have come to light in recent years, the same names are always mentioned. The discovery of the Zandvoort gang shows that again. Names such as Robbie van der P. and the Utrechter Rudy van D., as small links, or of the big ones such as the Brit Andrew W. and Lothar G.
"Lothar kept running into you," says Verhees about the many investigations he did in his ten-year career as a vice. He now works for the Helmond police. "The guests involved, in my experience, are about corpses."
Characteristic of the disbelief of justice in the existence of an international pedophile network is the Belgian Temse case. The main pivot in this is Norbert D.R., director of a boarding school and the same as of the Waalre case.
Although the Dendermonde Court already had information in 1992 that the now 48-year-old pedophile was involved in child sex, nothing was done with the file. Between 1990 and 1992, the Temsenaar would have been involved in the recruitment of dozens of Belgian boys.
Heavily sedated, they should have participated in sex orgies in the Netherlands. One of the suspects is again Lothar G., who is mentioned in the pieces 'the pimp and supplier' of the children.
At the end of November last year, the judiciary in Dendermonde abandoned the belief that there is insufficient evidence against Norbert D.R. goods. De Temsenaar, acquitted on appeal in the Netherlands in 1993 for his part in the Waalre case, was arrested after the discovery of new evidence in Portugal. A video film showed how the Belgian, together with an Amsterdammer, tried to lure boys with money.
"We have called and demonstrated this since 1992," said President J. Boeykens of the Morkhoven action group, which has had Robbie's electronic pocket agenda since June. "But no one took us seriously. Until that Portuguese band showed up. The names of the Temse network are now reappearing in the Zandvoort case. This is evident from the gang's mailing lists and agendas. Coincidence? "
Robbie and Lothar would return to the crosshairs of justice in the Netherlands in 1995. The Rotterdam police investigated Lothar's practices in response to the loss of German boy Manuel Schandwald.
The German turned out to run a boy's brothel in a house in Hillesluis. He is also involved in the company Wantex, which sends child pornography around the world.
The police then estimated that Lothar and his companion Henk S., who had five years old, had about fifty boys abused in their two houseboards: from Poland, the Netherlands and Germany. "In this case, Robbie was more a victim of child pornography and not a link," said Detective J. Steps involved in the case. "He certainly wasn't suspicious."
Robbie van der P. acquired his longstanding knowledge of Lothar in the Schandwald case last June. In a conversation with foreman M. Vervloesem of action group Morkhoven, whose Belgian television has recordings, says Van der P. that Schandwald had worked in a brothel of the German Rotterdammer immediately after his kidnapping. How Robbie knew all that?
The Zandvoort gang member freely confesses that in recent years he has been involved in the smuggling of German and Eastern European boys to the Netherlands. Lothar G. is also said to have participated in this smuggling line.
Verhees: 'I have seen this misery for ten years. Up to sex with infants. That is why I thought it was not strange that this material was found in Zandvoort. In the Netherlands, penalties have now been increased to combat child pornography trafficking, but it is time for the networks to be addressed. At an international level. Because we know where it is and how it works. "

Btw: remember the case of Émile Louis between 1975 and 1980 in France?
How can it be explained that two of those missing girls were recognized? And are in the Zandvoort photo file?..

Maybe we should mention the contents of the 2007 EenVandaag/Samson file in relation to former Demmink driver Rob Mostert. In it we read:
"When I saw somewhere in 92 that [notorious pedophile pimp Warwick Spinks] left together with Mostert in the government car of Joris Demmink I knew more was at play. However, I do not know what. ... "[Mostert] was the driver of Joris Demmink and often dropped off Holthuis and Joris Demmink. Also acted as general manager of Joris Demmink. And often traveled with him to Prague, Turkey, and other places. His role is unclear for the rest, but he died under suspicious circumstances. In my opinion he was a man who knew a lot. "[Pedophile] Joodse Dave: Seen twice with JD and Ben and Dave, Mostert and Holthuis."
